No greater gift can be bestowed upon humanity than a gift that provides healing and a platform to advance humanity's moral, spiritual, and scientific development. Christian Science clearly belongs to this category. For over a century it has brought healing to countless people all over the world. On its platform of the scientific application of the principles of Christianity people found healing of virtually all known diseases. New discoveries reveal that this remarkable achievement appears to be just the opening stage of its unfolding. Only a brief sample of this healing, in the form of 170 pages of testimonies of individuals being healed by their own scientific efforts, is presented on this site. Christian Science has become synonymous with this kind of scientific Christian healing work that echoes the healing work of Christ Jesus. However, if one looks deeper, the discovery of Christian Science comes to light as a far greater and more valuable contribution to the advance of humanity than is presently recognized or acknowledged. Mary Baker Eddy, its discoverer and founder, has created all of her major works in the form of a large complex of interlocked pedagogical structures designed to radically advance the moral, spiritual, and scientific development of humanity. These structures are metaphorically related to St. John's apocalyptic vision of the end of all evil unfolding on the platform of mankind's moral and spiritual development on an absolute scientific basis. America was uniquely situated in the world in cultural and scientific terms, at the time of the discovery of Christian Science, to enable the discovery of the universal principles that are essential for the founding of the above referred to basis. America played a unique role in the world in that regard, because it was itself founded on the tallest scientific and intellectual achievements in European history rooted in the Golden Renaissance of the 15th Century. The breakthrough in humanist development that the founding of the United States of America represents could not have been implemented in imperial Europe, but it was possible to ferment such a breakthrough in the open-minded environment in North America. The discovery of Christian Science occurred at what appears to be the high point of the humanist renaissance that unfolded against this background, which was more advanced in America than anywhere else on the planet. It is unlikely that Christian Science could have been discovered in any other period of time and any other region. In this sense it is America's gift to humanity from the pinnacle of its brightest period. Although much of it remains still hidden from public view or is denied to even exist, and Christian Science itself has become functionally irrelevant for this reason, its potential remains, and so does its value to humanity once its potential becomes developed. On the basis of the development of this potential the Apostle John's vision may yet be fulfilled that we will see the beginning of the end of all evil, and that we will see this in our time. The stage has been reached in human development that the end of all warfare is a definite possibility, including the end of poverty, slavery, and violence. The potential that Christian Science brings to humanity to contribute towards the realization of this possibility, is very real and profound, though barely known. Its potential is real and profound, because it unfolded itself at a high point of a pioneering era in a country with a profound pioneering spirit and history. The vast potential that Christian Science brings to humanity is perhaps symbolically illustrated in the spiritual healing of diseases that it was once known for throughout the world, which now comes to light as but a beginning. |
